Char Young Kim Claims The Doosan Matchplay Title, Again!
An epic five days of head to head matchplay came to a conclusion earlier today, in the beautiful Korean sunshine. It was underdog Char Young Kim who came out on top against her much more fancied rival Inbee Park, with a 3&2 victory in the final of the KLPGA Doosan Matchplay Championship.
After finishing second at last week’s NH Investment Championship, Kim was certainly in form to put up a strong challenge this week. Having won this tournament back in 2012, Kim knew what challenge she had ahead of her this week. She ended the week with a 100% record, after winning all of her group matches. Draws were allowed in the group matches, just so you know!
The fact that she had won this tournament before, as well as her performance last week, surely helped Kim battle through the five days and earn a spot in the final against Inbee Park. Although it had been five years since her previous KLPGA win, Kim was not going to let this golden opportunity pass her by.
Kim never trailed in the final to Park, although it took until the 10th hole for her to extend her lead to two holes. Another win on the 12th put Kim in a commanding 3up position. The duo halved all the way to the 16th, giving an emotional Kim her first win since her KLPGA treble in 2012.
